Robotics in Education & Education in Robotics: Shifting Focus from Technology to Pedagogy
نویسنده
چکیده
In this work we highlight the role of constructivist pedagogy and consequent educational methodologies either while using robotics in school education (Robotics in Education) or while training teachers to use robotics for teaching purposes (Education in Robotics). In this framework, constructivist methodologies for integrating robotics in school physics and informatics education and in professional teacher training are suggested. Exemplary projects from each case are reported to demonstrate the learning potential of the proposed educational methodologies involving teachers and students while using robotics to study kinematics and programming concepts in physics and informatics classes of secondary education respectively.

Robots and Art: Interactive Art and Robotics Education Program in the Humanities
We describe the design of an undergraduate course in art and robotics that aims to integrate basic concepts of computer science, robotics and art installation for undergraduate students within the problem-based learning model. Our methodology aims to bridge the gap that separates humanities from computer science and engineering education to prepare students to address real world problems in rob...
متن کاملUsing Robots as Learning Objects for Teaching Computer Science
We introduce a concept of Robots As Learning Objects (RALO) and a framework of methodology for robotics-oriented teaching of Computer Science (CS) topics based on the Constructivist and Empirical Modelling paradigms. Our methodology views robotic technologies not as mere tools, but rather as vehicles of new ways of thinking and reasoning about teaching, learning and education at large. We formu...
متن کاملExploring Social Robots as a tool for Special Education to teach English to Iranian Kids with Autism
This case study investigates the effects of Robot Assisted Language Learning (RALL) on English vocabulary learning and retention of Iranian children with high-functioning autism. Two groups of three male students (6-10 years old) with high-functioning autism participated in the current study. The humanoid robot NAO was used as a teacher assistant to teach English to the RALL group. Both RALL an...
متن کاملIntegrating ROS into Educational Robotics: Bridging the Gap between Grade School and Grad School
Robots and robot competitions have been used throughout the entire STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education pipeline [8]. However, a gap has been identified in the focus and reinforcement of educational robotics concepts between K-12 and higher education [3]; for example, K-12 robot competitions tend to focus more on open-loop, reactive, and/or rule-based solutions with limit...
متن کاملThe Place of Postmethod Pedagogy in Teacher Education Programs in EFL Language Centers of Iran
ELT has recently witnessed a shift away from a method-bound orientation and toward a post-methodic view of teaching English. Consequently, the focus of some second language teacher education programs has shifted toward sociopolitical aspects of ELT (Miller, 2004) and its contributions to reinforcement or transformation of the status quo (Kumaravadivelu, 2003a). Yet, in many countries, including...
